Shut the Box on 2012

Two items have been on my mind today as the year comes to an end. One, we got a fun game out that we hadn’t played in a long time called Shut the Box. Have you played it?

It’s a dice game where you have numbers 1 through 12 on your board. You roll the dice and as your numbers come up, you remove them in any combination to match the number your rolled. For example, you may roll a 9. You can remove the numbers on your board in these combinations: 1 and 8, 9 or 7 and 2. Whomever is left with the lowest number at the end of the game wins. If  you are able to remove all of your numbers, you have Shut the Box.IMG_4183

It’s a fun game of chance to have around. It especially good if you have grade school kids who are learning their numbers and addition. They will have fun with this game. It’s just challenging enough to be fun for them and it’s educational!

The second thing on my mind is my dog Clancy. He is an old, old boy. We thought sure he wouldn’t see 2013. So as the night rolls over to 2013, I feel blessed that he is still here. He has been such a good dog to us. We feel lucky to have him in our lives. We’ve really struggled through several illnesses with him this year, but our vet has brought him around each time and given him a little more life.

He was out enjoying the snow with us today. Watching over the kids as the tumbled down the slippery driveway. What a good boy Clancy!

Happy 2013. We can discuss resolutions later. I am off to play outside!

Sounds like you had a nice evening. We also pulled out a dice game called Risk-N-Roll. I’m not sure we played by the rules, but we adapted it so everyone of all ages could play. We had the television going in the background listening to the old Dick Clark era music. Oh, did I mention that my daughter brought down a chocolate fountain and we dipped everything from minature nutterbutter cookies, grapes, marshmellows and the list goes on. Everything tastes good covered in chocolate. Saddly.

It’s hard to see a pet become old. They provide us with so many joys and memories. They are truly a member of the family. You have provided him with so much joy and care that when it’s time to leave this world, you will have the comfort of knowing he had a good life and was happy. God Bless Clancy and his family. Jerry

Oh, that’s a tough one….love him like crazy while you have him. What a pretty one he is.

And here I thought I was the only one who owned a Shut the Box box! LOL The kiddos played it when they were wee ones. I oughta dig it out and pass it on to the grandchild who’s almost ready for the basics of math!

Dang……Jerry got a chocolate fountain! Oh, wait….probably better his house than mine! LOL
    Happy New Year!!

This sounds like a fun game! I have never heard of it, but wish I had when my children were young. There is no sweeter love than the love of an old beloved dog. He is a beauty, too. We lost our beloved Little Bear last May. Don’t you wish they could live as long as we do? Enjoy this precious time and know you gave him the best life ever. xx
