Sensory Box

I made a sensory box for my 3-year-old today. I just used a big container I typically used for cookies. I put a bag of uncooked white rice in it. I buried some “treasures” in it. I looked through the junk drawer and put some plastic trinkets in it that came off of toys. I  cut the bottom off a water bottle out of the recycle bin to make a funnel and included a spoon.

My daughter was enthralled with the box for an hour. I had to take it away from her to serve dinner. My 6-year-old loved it just as much. She could hardly concentrate on her homework because she wanted to play with it too!

What an easy and inexpensive project for these little minds! It didn’t come without a bit of a mess. I wouldn’t recommend giving it to your little ones right after you have cleaned your floors, but maybe just before!

I can easily see these sensory boxes having themes to go along with books, holidays or seasons. Play along. I bet you feel like a little kid in the sandbox!
