I found this old girl up in the barn. She was pretty rough, but I could see her potential. She has beautiful chippy paint on one side, an awesome old metal handle and some nice panels.
I had been needing (quite desperately) a coat rack in my mud room. I mean to tell you coats are everywhere in my house, including the closet where they should be. Seriously, I have coats in the mud room on the floor, stuffed in backpacks, hung on door handles, strewn across the couch, on the bench in the kitchen and even on the bathroom floor.
It was driving me CRAZY!
So I finally got around to working on this project with my dad (and a little help from my son). We cleaned up that pretty, solid wood door.
We scraped the paint off of it and sealed it with Artisan Clear Coat that makes a nice matte finish. My dad also switched the metal handle around so it faced the side of the door I wanted to show.
My next step was to pick out hooks. I got a tip from a friend who said, try HOBBY LOBBY. I scored big there. I got these neat hooks that looked very antique and they were big too. Perfect for my family of five!
So here she is. My dad secured it to the wall in our mud room. You see it as soon as you walk through the door, and it’s a piece of cake to throw your coat or backpack on it as you race inside the house.
I am very happy with the results!
Shoe corner, look out. You are next!
