Re-purposed Ideas Weekly #23 – Zero Landfill Akron

Welcome to Re-purposed Ideas Weekly where we share posts about things we’ve re-purposed. This week I wanted to tell you about Zero Landfill Akron. This is a cool organization of dedicated volunteers who collect unwanted materials such as carpet and wallpaper samples from local businesses (thus diverting them from a landfill) and make them available to the general public for free.

I visited one of their harvest days and picked up some corian tiles and a large three-ringed binder. They had all sorts of materials from glass and plastics, to textiles and wood samples. With a creative mind, you could create many useful arts or crafts with these materials.

My friend Mary Beth over at Portage Trail Barn found three loads of goodies to use for her re-purposed craft business.

I used my leftover wallpaper samples to create this wrapped bouquet of burp clothes for my friend and her new baby. I have also used the wallpaper samples to create gift bags, ornaments and used as “cardstock” for many, many projects!
