Marriage Challenge Week 2

So if you are playing along from last week you know we are working on praising our husbands. Didn’t see last weeks post? Go here.

“The wise woman builds her house,
but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.”
~Proverbs 14:1

Whew, this is strong statement that speaks to me. I can get fiery mad sometimes at my husband! Usually I come unglued when he has lost his temper with the kids. It’s not because I have never lost my temper mind you, it’s that I know how important it is to show respect to our children to get respect from our children. My gut instinct is to fight back!

Help me hold my tongue Lord and praise my husband! So here’s what I have planned so far this week to shower my husband with praise. To build up my house!

I took a quick picture this morning of the kids and sent Daddy a text at work to tell him we loved him. I listed one thing that each child (and I) loved about Daddy. He appreciated this. His job can be high stress at times. So he’s happy to get some smiles thrown his way! Who doesn’t love a  photo of their kiddos in their fleecy jammies. Dino boy was looking extra cute in his!

Then, I set up a day that my parents would watch the kids so we could go on a date. This seems simple, but with three young kids, dates are hard to come by lately. We value our time together, but we often have Date Night at home after the kids go to bed once each week. So when we can pencil in time to get away from the house together it’s extra special. He appreciated that I took the time to schedule this for us. (I got a little praise thrown my way : o)

Tomorrow at the dinner table, I plan to have the kids tell him one thing they each love about him. That should be fun and likely funny. It’s always great to hear what kids say and think! I plan to give my two cents!

Lastly, I plan to point out how much I value the “little things” he does around the house this week. He is “Mr. Mom” on the days I work. He does a great job.

Oh, and just in case you are thinking about sending a love note in your man’s lunch box or briefcase, DO IT! I put one in last week and found a note I had sent him 5 YEARS AGO in his box! He said he keeps it in there and when he’s had a rough day, he reads it!

So if you are wondering if your man really needs all of this praise and encouragement the answer is YES!

Oh, what a celebration he’s in for. Betting those kiddos come up with some amazing things for dad. And how amazing that a five year old note still remains……
What a lovely testimony to the power of your words in his heart.

But I gotta ask….Isn’t he wondering what you’re up to yet? LOL

Oh, yes we do. Sounds like you are having a good time with this challenge. Keep us posted as to how this progresses. Only fifteen more days. Good luck.

  3. What a powerful verse and a great reminder of how we are to build our homes! Thank you so much for sharing from your own experiences. Even after being married for a long time it’s good to be reminded that I need to build my guy up… it’s so easy to forget in the busyness of life. Have a blessed weekend and thanks again for sharing words of wisdom!
